I have things to post of real importance (pics of the girls, funny happenings, etc.), but I feel a strong need to defend my break-up from the Utah Jazz. It was more than tough to make the decision to forsake the team that I have loved since my youth. And I flatly reject the notion by some (Jeff) that I am "fair weather". I remember cuddling with George on the couch as a child watching Darrell Griffith, and Mark Eaton. I was there through the Felton Spencer/Greg Ostertag/John Amaechi/ (can we please find a decent center) years. I hung the "It's Our Year" playoff poster in my window. I cheered with the rest of Utah when John Stockton hit "the shot". I had a cutout life-sized head of Bryon (not Byron) Russell. I defended the change in team logo and colors, even though deep down, I knew better. I watched through the post Stockton/Malone years of nothing. I was there when we thought Kirilenko was a franchise player. When they drafted Darron Williams over Chris Paul, I defended them. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning when we lived in DC to catch every playoff game. I sat court-side in what I have been known to call "the greatest moment of my life" (births and marriage aside). It's been an up and down road, but ultimately, what have the Jazz ever given me? This has been a pretty one-sided relationship. I give and give and give for years and it all amounts to nothing. It's like a boyfriend who's fun and charming and slightly appealing because not every girl likes him like the more popular boys (i.e. Lakers, Spurs). He's great all in all, but every time I start to think it's going somewhere, he breaks my heart. But then the next day he shows up with flowers or jewelry, and I'm with him again. Not this time, my friends. I won't be disappointed again. I cannot change teams (that's not my nature); so I will forever be a basketball spinster. Goodbye Jazz.
*Oh dear, the Jazz just beat the Hornets. Do I accept this gorgeous necklace?
