We're back on the charts!!
We took the girls to the Dr.'s office for a visit on Friday. It was Sabrina's 3 year check up and Lucy's 6 month (even though she's 7 months...I was killing two birds with one stone) check up. Ever since Sabrina turned 1, I have dreaded getting her measurements. I always feel like a failure for not fattening her up a little bit. Well, not this time! The nurse informed me that Sabrina is 34 inches tall and weighs 24.25 lbs, and when it was announced that she was in the 1st percentile for weight and the 2nd percentile for height, we all high-fived and cheered. It was really funny. Subby grinned from ear to ear; she was so proud. She hasn't been on the charts at all for a long time. Lucy weighs 15 lbs 3 oz (17th percentile) and is 24.75 in tall (6th percentile), and her head is 42.8 cm around (44th percentile).

Of Mice and Cowards

What is on your list of things that make you weak in the knees? Some of mine include needles, guts and gore, pulling cotton balls apart, when people talk about foot surgery (especially toe surgery), fingernails on the chalkboard, and RODENTS. I cannot even think about rodents with their little hairy bodies and disgusting tails. There is just something about them that grosses me out beyond belief. So, you can imagine how I reacted when I saw a mouse run in our house under the screen door while I was feeding Lucy on Monday. If you cannot imagine, think about the 1950s housewife on Tom and Jerry. Screams, jumps, shaking. And that's pretty much how Tuesday went too, after having a few more sightings of the little pest. I couldn't even be in my house. He clearly wasn't taking to the poisoned bait that I had purchased, so I called an exterminator, for some (free) advice. He said to get the sticky traps. So I did, and what do you know, today at 6:30 AM after coming home from my morning run, I saw him stuck in the trap. I awoke Paul with glee and he went and disposed of the vermin. After which, he came in and said, "That was the smallest mouse I have ever seen. You're a wimp." Chivalry is NOT dead my friends, but our mouse is!! And today, packing up to get out of this place and moving far far away doesn't seem like such a hard chore. Tender mercy? The Lord works in mysterious ways.
Note: I couldn't bring myself to put up a picture of a real mouse; even the sight creeps me out.

Brace yourselves, we have a 3 year-old!

As cliche as it may sound, I really can't believe that we have a 3 year-old! Today is Sabrina's 3rd birthday. Words can't express how much we love this little person. In honor of her special day, here are some insights in 3's into our Subby.
3 Activities:
1. Singing/Dancing (usually together)
2. Running fast
3. Watching and reenacting "Cinderbrella"
3 Foods:
1. Waffles ("awfuls" as she calls them)
2. Cookies, candy, marshmallows, treats of any kind
3. Ranch Dressing (the veggies are only a means to get the dressing)
3 Phrases:
1. "Anymore" (She adds this to the end of almost every independent declarative sentence. For example, "I don't want to go to bed anymore!" or "I don't want a sandwich anymore!" even though she never wanted these things to begin with.)
2. "I'm sorry." (She is so apologetic when she does something she knows is wrong. I never have to remind her to apologize.)
3. "HEY LUCE!" or "LUCY MAE!" shouted at the top of her lungs. (It always shocks Lucy when she does it, but then she laughs.)
3 Personality Traits:
1. Independence (Trying at times, but I believe this will serve her well in life.)
2. Sense of Humor (It's really important to us that our kids know how to laugh and joke, so we're glad for this.)
3. Charm (She can bat her eyelashes really well.)
3 Shows:
1. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
2. Kipper
3. Pingu (We're trying to break her of this one. I don't get it!)
3 Places:
1. Park
2. Nursery
3. Shelley's House
3 Favorites:
1. Red (favorite color)
2. ? (favorite animal; she hates them all!)
3. Lucy (favorite person)
Happy Birthday Subby! We can't imagine life without you!

Happy Easter 2009

The problem with 9 AM church is that you don't have all the time in the world to get a great Easter shot before you have to head out the door. I couldn't count on how they would look after church (particularly nursery); so this is what we got. We had a fantastic Easter made complete by baskets, egg hunts, family, and rotten teeth.

5 Years... (yesterday, I'm a little slow)
You may not remember 2004, but the professional pictures of our wedding weren't done digitally. That's how I know we've been married a long time. This amateur shot was taken by someone (not professional), I'm not sure who, and it is not very flattering of either of us. Proof positive that even brides have awkward moments. Anyway, this post is a small tribute to the best life decision I've made thus far. What gave me the confidence to shoot for the stars and marry way out of my league, I'll never know. Happy Anniversary to us!
P.S. When we renew our vows, it will NOT be during finals!
P.P.S. I lost the bracket bet (an understatement; I was slaughtered!). We will be celebrating with a small getaway in a few weeks when I have a husband again.

Defending the break-up...

I have things to post of real importance (pics of the girls, funny happenings, etc.), but I feel a strong need to defend my break-up from the Utah Jazz. It was more than tough to make the decision to forsake the team that I have loved since my youth. And I flatly reject the notion by some (Jeff) that I am "fair weather". I remember cuddling with George on the couch as a child watching Darrell Griffith, and Mark Eaton. I was there through the Felton Spencer/Greg Ostertag/John Amaechi/ (can we please find a decent center) years. I hung the "It's Our Year" playoff poster in my window. I cheered with the rest of Utah when John Stockton hit "the shot". I had a cutout life-sized head of Bryon (not Byron) Russell. I defended the change in team logo and colors, even though deep down, I knew better. I watched through the post Stockton/Malone years of nothing. I was there when we thought Kirilenko was a franchise player. When they drafted Darron Williams over Chris Paul, I defended them. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning when we lived in DC to catch every playoff game. I sat court-side in what I have been known to call "the greatest moment of my life" (births and marriage aside). It's been an up and down road, but ultimately, what have the Jazz ever given me? This has been a pretty one-sided relationship. I give and give and give for years and it all amounts to nothing. It's like a boyfriend who's fun and charming and slightly appealing because not every girl likes him like the more popular boys (i.e. Lakers, Spurs). He's great all in all, but every time I start to think it's going somewhere, he breaks my heart. But then the next day he shows up with flowers or jewelry, and I'm with him again. Not this time, my friends. I won't be disappointed again. I cannot change teams (that's not my nature); so I will forever be a basketball spinster. Goodbye Jazz.
*Oh dear, the Jazz just beat the Hornets. Do I accept this gorgeous necklace?
